Welcome to Ballycarrickmaddy Primary School, where it is our aim to develop ‘Learning for Life’.
Across our school community we have created a happy and stimulating environment where every child is valued and encouraged to achieve their best. We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regularly updated information for both parents and pupils.
No website can really give you a complete feel for our ethos and atmosphere. Therefore, if you feel you would like to visit the school and see us in action please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange a tour.

At Ballycarrickmaddy we provide breakfast club from 7:30am and after school provision until 6:00pm each day.

🏑 Boys’ Hockey Makes History at Ballycarrickmaddy! 🏑
Today, for the first time, Ballycarrickmaddy fielded a boys’ hockey team at the Ulster Hockey Blitz Day at Friends’ School, Lisburn.
Our P5-P7 boys represented the school brilliantly, showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. They faced some strong, experienced opposition, enjoyed success in other matches, and made us incredibly proud.
We are delighted to see boys’ hockey taking its first steps at Ballycarrickmaddy and look forward to watching it grow in the years ahead! 💙🏑

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair arrives in school tomorrow morning. Books will be available for purchase in the rotunda from:
Tuesday 29 September to Friday 2 October
Morning – 8.30am until 9.15am
After school – 2.00pm until 3.15pm
This is a fantastic opportunity to promote your child’s reading and to help the school raise funds for books, as Scholastic give us commission on every book purchased to spend on new books for our classrooms!

Mad Dogs Round Up
It’s hard be believe our first month of term is almost over. Mad Dogs have been having so much fun the time just flies.
Last week the children celebrated National recycling week with a host of activities. The older gang had fun using Adobe express to create posters for all the classes on which items can be put in the classroom bins. 🗑️
They looked at food waste and how to repurpose leftovers by making butter and potato bread using both for snack! Mrs McKillop and Mr White really enjoyed it and asked for the recipe. Leftover bananas were taken and the children got the chance to try banana and cinnamon muffins.
Our scarecrows are taking shape and everyone is having fun with recycling old clothes.
Finally the week was finished off with designing tote bags using material scrapes.
This weeks fun topic was pirates🏴☠️
Lots of great stories have been shared and fun crafts. Snack this week has been all about the importance of eating fruit and veg to prevent scurvy like the pirates. Miss Robinson and Miss Noble came for snack and enjoy the “chocolate cannonballs” the children made.
It’s been a great start to the year and there’s lots more great plans ahead.

🎶🌳 Music in the Forest! 🌳🎶
P6 took their music lesson outdoors today! 🍂 They enjoyed tapping out different rhythms, listening carefully to one another and working together in small groups to compose their very own rhythms. 🥁🎵

P2 had lots of fun exploring the forest with the parachute and autumn leaves. We talked about how the leaves change colour and fall from the trees during autumn. P2 enjoyed playing with the leaves and taking part in the parachute activity, developing their curiosity and understanding of the changes happening in nature.
